Numan Ağa was born in Kastamonu in AH 1249 (1833–1834). First work is recorded in Girit in AH 1274 (1857–1858), 25 AH years after the recorded birth year, with “Askeriye” as first-job wording. The surviving career record covers 22 distinct AH years in AH 1286–1307 (1869–1890); it begins with Tatar in Dersaadet (600 kuruş monthly). Tatar Agasi appears later, in AH 1305 (1887–1888), with 800 kuruş monthly. Numan Ağa's death is recorded under AH 1308 (1890–1891).
