Life and register readings
İbrahim Edhem Efendi was born in Shkodër (İşkodra) in 1861/62 (AH 1278); the father's occupation was "Asâkir-i Şahane binbaşısı". At about 15, in 1876/77, İbrahim Edhem began work in Travnik, on a first salary of 225 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1878/79, places İbrahim Edhem in Ulcinj (Ülgün) as Bidayet Mahkemesi ikinci kâtibi. Next came Shijak (Şiyak) from 1880 to 1883. Alongside, the lists for 1882 to 1886 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Aşar kâtibi. Alongside, the lists for 1885 to 1887 give a second post, in Lezhë as Mal Muduru. The lists have no entry for 1887 to 1889. The last entries, from 1889 to 1896, name İbrahim Edhem as Nahiye Muduru, with no place.
The salary went from 225 kuruş a month in 1878/79 to 500 in 1889/90, the peak, as Nahiye Muduru, when 56 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1895/96.
