Örfi Efendi was born in Pristina (Priştine) in 1892/93 (AH 1310); the father's occupation was "Priştine vergi memuru". At about 17, in 1910/11, Örfi began work, on a first salary of 400 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1910/11, names Örfi as Ticaret ve Nafıa Nezareti Nafıa İdaresi Kalemi memuru, with no place. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1911.
