Yusuf Nâibi Efendi

Yusuf Nâibi Efendi was born in Çemişgezek in 1862/63 (AH 1279); the father's occupation was "Mazgirt sancağı tahrirat müdürü". At about 19, in 1881/82, Yusuf Nâibi began work in Mazgirt, on a first salary of 75 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1881/82, places Yusuf Nâibi in Mazgirt as Sancak meclis-i idare ikinci kâtibi, where the entries run to 1884/85. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1887 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Askerlik nedeniyle ara. Alongside, the lists for 1886 to 1888 give a second post, in Ovacık as Tahrirat kâtibi. Yusuf Nâibi then moved to Kurucay in 1889/90. Alongside, the lists for 1889 to 1893 give a second post, in Kemah as Bidayet mahkemesi ikinci kâtibi. Next came Xanthi (İskeçe) from 1894 to 1906. Alongside, the lists for 1905 to 1907 give a second post, in Zlatograd as Bidayet mahkemesi azası. Few officials served in as many places; fewer than 8 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service did.

Pay rose from 75 kuruş a month in 1881/82 to a peak of 700 in 1905/06, in Zlatograd, when 70 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 23 years the salaries add up to 82,056 kuruş, 73 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
