Life and register readings
Born in Ürgüp in 1864/65 (AH 1281), Osman Nuri Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). Work began in 1878, at about 14. The first annual entry, for 1878, names Osman Nuri as Aşar idaresi mülazımı, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1880 to 1887.
Pay rose from 60 kuruş a month in 1879/80 to a peak of 80 in 1887/88, when 3 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1888/89.
