Life and register readings
Born in Antalya in 1861/62 (AH 1278), Pavlos Efendi came from the Hristiyan community; the father was a merchant (tüccar). Work began in Antalya in 1877/78, at about 16. The annual lists begin in 1877/78, with Pavlos as Antalya Bidayet Mahkemesi mülazımı in Antalya, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1884/85. Alongside, the lists for 1884/85 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Muvakkat tütün tahrir kâtibi. Pavlos then moved to Alanya (Alaiye) from 1885 to 1893. The lists have no entry for 1886 to 1888. Alongside, the lists for 1892/93 give a second post, in Antalya as Düyun-ı Umumiye Müdürlüğü ikinci kâtibi.
The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to 500 in 1885/86, the peak, in Alanya, when 58 per cent of paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 250 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1892/93.
