Life and register readings
Mehmet Şevket Efendi was born in Erzincan into the İslam community; the father was a district governor or lieutenant colonel (kaymakam). Work began in 1885/86 (AH 1303), on a first salary of 100 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1885/86, names Mehmet Şevket as tahrirat katibi, with no place.
