Annual salary study and register readings

This study view uses the annual salary reference records. The main biography brings together the wider career and its sources.

Life and register readings

Mehmed Zeki Efendi was born in Karapinar in 1835/36 (AH 1251). At about 23, in 1858/59, Mehmed Zeki began work in Erzincan. The annual lists begin in 1858/59, with Mehmed Zeki as Kur'a mümeyyizi in Erzincan. The lists have no entry for 1859 to 1864. Mehmed Zeki then moved to Bolu in 1864/65, then a post with no place named from 1865 to 1870. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Zeki to Medina (Medine) from 1870 to 1873. Alongside, the lists for 1872 to 1876 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Fetvahâne müsevvidi. Next came Üsküdar from 1877 to 1880. For 1880 to 1883 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1879/80 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Adliye Mufettisi. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Zeki to Istanbul in 1883/84 and Medina in 1886/87. The lists have no entry for 1884 to 1886. The last entries, from 1888 to 1897, name Mehmed Zeki as Sadreyn müsteşar muavini, with no place. For 1891 to 1896 the lists have no entry. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1897/98. Entries spanning 41 years are rare, reached by fewer than 5 per cent of the 8,239 officials. The annual entries give no salary. The last annual entry is for 1897/98.
