SALĠH EFENDĠ

SALĠH EFENDĠ was born in Antalya; the father's occupation was "Naip (nüvvab)". Work began in Antalya in 1869/70 (AH 1286), on a first salary of 150 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1869/70, places SALĠH EFENDĠ in Antalya, the birthplace, as Muhasebe kalemi mukayyidi, where the entries run to 1871/72. Alongside, the lists for 1871 to 1874 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Mal Muduru. At the same time, from 1873 to 1881, the lists also place SALĠH EFENDĠ in Antalya as Evkaf katibi. Alongside, the lists for 1880/81 give a second post, in Elmalı as Kaymakam vekili. Next came Alanya (Alaiye) and Antalya from 1881 to 1910. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1897 give a second post, in Elmalı as Kaymakam vekili. The last entry, for 1897/98, names SALĠH EFENDĠ as Kaymakam vekili, with no place. Entries spanning 42 years are rare, reached by fewer than 5 per cent of the 8,239 officials.

The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1869/70 to 1,215 in 1880/81, the peak, in Elmalı, when 86 per cent of paid officials earned less.
