Life and register readings
Born in Erzincan in 1874/75 (AH 1291), Ömer Lütfi Efendi came from the İslam community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Ömer Lütfi began work in 1894/95, at about 20, on a first salary of 80 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1894/95, names Ömer Lütfi as Birinci şube mülazımı, with no place. The lists give Infisal for 1898/99 instead of a title.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 80 kuruş a month in 1894/95, when 3 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, five years of salary come to 4,800 kuruş, 19 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The last annual entry is for 1898/99.
