Life and register readings
Karabet Efendi was born in Edirne in 1849/50 (AH 1266). The schooling was at the Mahalli Mektep. Work began in Babaeski (Baba-yı Atik) in 1890/91, at about 41, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. Fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known began work at 41 or older. The first annual entry, for 1890/91, places Karabet in Babaeski as Edirne Emlak-ı Hümayun Baba-i Atîk Şubesi görevlisi. The lists have no entry for 1891 to 1899. The last posts were in İpsala from 1899 to 1901. In place of a title the lists give Vefat (death) for 1900/01.
