Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Nuri Bey began in Sükûd, Cebel-i Bereket Sancağı in 1852/53 (AH 1269); the father's occupation was "Elbistan kaymakamı". Mehmed Nuri began work in 1872/73, at about 19. The first annual entry, for 1872/73, names Mehmed Nuri as Geçici idare meclisi azası, with no place, with a rise to district governor (Kaymakam) in 1877/78. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Nuri to Cebeli bereket and Kahramanmaraş (Maraş) from 1880 to 1888. The salary went from 630 kuruş a month in 1875/76 to 2,000 in 1878, the peak, as Kaymakam, when nine in ten paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 1,400 kuruş. The final annual entry is for 1891/92.
