Life and register readings
Mehmed Necib Efendi was born in Bursa in 1839/40 (AH 1255), into the İslam community. At about 14, in 1852/53, Mehmed Necib began work. The annual lists begin in 1852/53, with Mehmed Necib as Mulazemet and no place named. For 1859 to 1862 the lists have no entry. Next came Mustafakemalpaşa (Kirmasti) from 1862 to 1865. Alongside, the lists for 1870 to 1872 give a second post, in Mudanya as Mudanya kai'makamlığı. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Necib to Bitola (Manastır) and Bandırma from 1880 to 1884. The lists have no entry for 1877 to 1880. Alongside, the lists for 1883 to 1887 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Kesriye kazası kai'makamlığı. Alongside, the lists for 1886 to 1893 give a second post, in Diyarbakır as Diyarbekir vilâyeti mesarif müdirliği. The lists give Azil (dismissal) for 1864/65 and 1886/87; Infisal for 1868/69, 1883/84 and 1892/93; Mazuliyet for 1892/93 instead of a title. Entries spanning 42 years are rare, reached by fewer than 5 per cent of the 8,239 officials.
Pay rose from 150 kuruş a month in 1858/59 to a peak of 2,250 in 1871/72, when nine in ten paid officials earned less. Over 27 years the salaries add up to 489,000 kuruş, 3.6 times what an official on the median salary earned. The last annual entry is for 1892/93.
