Life and register readings
Ramazan Efendi was born in Mucur in 1841/42 (AH 1257). Work began in Mustafakemalpaşa (Kirmasti) in 1878/79, at about 38, on a first salary of 480 kuruş. Few began so late; fewer than 4 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 38 or older. The annual lists begin in 1878/79, with Ramazan as rüştiye mektebi muallim-i evveli in Mustafakemalpaşa, where the entries run to 1890/91. In 1891/92 the lists place Ramazan in Taif.
Pay rose from 480 kuruş a month in 1878/79 to a peak of 500 in 1891/92, in Taif, when 56 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1891/92.
