Life and register readings
Vasilaki Efendi was born in Kayseri in 1867/68 (AH 1284), into the Hristiyan community. At about 22, in 1889/90, Vasilaki began work, on a first salary of 360 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1889/90, with Vasilaki as Sandık emini and no place named. For 1892 to 1898 the lists have no entry. Vasilaki then moved to Canik from 1900 to 1903. Alongside, the lists for 1902/03 give a second post, in Bafra as Tahsilat müfettişi. The last post was in Canik again in 1904/05. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1898/99.
Pay rose from 360 kuruş a month in 1889/90 to a peak of 486 in 1900/01, in Canik, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1904/05.
