Life and register readings
Seyyid Mehmed Tahir Efendi was born in Rukal in 1865/66 (AH 1282), into the İslam community, and the father's occupation was "Âlim, şeyh". Work began in Al-Karak (Kerek) in 1903/04, at about 38. Of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known, fewer than 4 per cent started at 38 or older. The annual lists begin in 1903/04, with Mehmed Tahir as Kerek Leyli Mektebi muallim-i sânisi in Al-Karak. Next came Tripoli in 1904/05, then a post with no place named from 1913 to 1924.
