Life and register readings

Born in Drama in 1872/73 (AH 1289), Mehmed Said Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Drama belediye reisi". Mehmed Said began work in 1883/84, at about 12. Few began so young; fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,664 officials whose age at first work is known started at 12 or younger. The first annual entry, for 1883/84, names Mehmed Said as a candidate official (Mülazım), with no place.
