Life and register readings
The life of İSTEPAN EFEND İ began in Afyonkarahisar (Karahisar-ı Sahib). The annual lists begin in 1885/86 (AH 1303), with İSTEPAN İ as Aşar ve Ağnam Başkâtibi (İnfisal) and no place named. İSTEPAN İ then moved to Bolvadin from 1886 to 1888, then back to Afyonkarahisar, the birthplace, from 1889 to 1896. Alongside, the lists for 1892/93 give a second post, in Sandıklı as Muhasebe Kâtibi Vekili. Next came Akhisar in 1897/98, then a return to Akhisar from 1900 to 1902. Alongside, the lists for 1901/02 give a second post, in Uşak as Banka Sandığı Muhasebe Kâtibi. In place of a title the lists give Azil (dismissal) for 1895/96.
Pay rose from 400 kuruş a month in 1886/87 to a peak of 650 in 1901/02, in Uşak, when 70 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1901/02.
