Life and register readings
Tevfik Efendi was born in Roda in 1859/60 (AH 1276); the father was a deputy judge (naib). Work began in Prijepolje (Prepol) in 1878/79, at about 19, on a first salary of 250 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1878/79 and 1879/80, place Tevfik in Prijepolje as Kaza tahrirat kâtibi.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1878/79, in Prijepolje, when 21 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1879/80.
