Life and register readings
The life of Mustafa Kâmil Efendi began in Malatya in 1853/54 (AH 1270). Mustafa Kâmil began work in Akçadağ in 1872/73, at about 18, on a first salary of 190 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1872/73, with Mustafa Kâmil as Meclis-i Deâvi Kâtibi in Akçadağ, where the entries run to 1876/77. Alongside, the lists for 1876 to 1878 give a second post, in Kâhta as Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1881 give a second post, in Adıyaman as Mal Muduru. Alongside, the lists for 1880 to 1885 give a second post, in Malatya as Bidayet Mahkemesi Zabıt Kâtibi. For 1885 to 1890 the lists have no entry. Next came Diyarbakır from 1890 to 1893. Six places in all, a number reached by fewer than 8 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service.
Pay rose from 190 kuruş a month in 1872/73 to a peak of 1,400 in 1892/93, in Karbala, when 88 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1892/93.
