Life and register readings
The life of Mehmet Şevket Efendi began in Sivas in 1853/54 (AH 1270); the father's occupation was "posta müdürü". At about 19, in 1873/74, Mehmet Şevket began work, on a first salary of 190 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1873/74, names Mehmet Şevket as meclis katibi, with no place. Alongside, the lists for 1875 to 1878 give a second post, in Sivas as vergi kalemi stajyeri. Alongside, the lists for 1877 to 1881 give a second post, in a post with no place named as vukuat katibi. The lists have no entry for 1881 to 1887.
