Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Bey began in Istanbul in 1864/65 (AH 1281); the father's occupation was "Filibe Redif Binbaşısı". Mehmed began work in Istanbul in 1884/85, at about 20, on a first salary of 70 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1884/85, names Mehmed as Kalem memuru, with no place, with a rise to Baskatip in 1902/03. The lists have no entry for 1887 to 1890.
