Life and register readings
Sakıb Efendi was born in Gjilan (Gilan) in 1855/56 (AH 1272) into the İslam community. At about 16, in 1872/73, Sakıb began work in Sivrihisar, on a first salary of 250 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1872/73, with Sakıb as Zeytin Aşarı İkinci Kâtibi and no place named. The lists have no entry for 1878 to 1879. The last posts were in Gjilan, the birthplace, from 1879 to 1886. For 1880 to 1882 the lists have no entry. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1874/75 and 1877/78.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1872/73, when 23 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 11 years pay ended where it began, at 250 kuruş.
