Life and register readings
Mahmud Efendi was born in Sarıkaya karyesi in 1871/72 (AH 1288), into the İslam community, and the father's occupation was "tuzcu esnafı". Work began in Sivas in 1905/06, at about 34. The annual lists begin in 1905/06, with Mahmud as eytam müdürü and no place named. Alongside, the lists for 1909 to 1911 give a second post, in Yıldızeli as kaza eytam müdürü. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1910/11.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1909/10, in Yıldızeli, when 22 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1910/11.
