Life and register readings
Mehmet Raif Efendi was born in Sivas in 1866/67 (AH 1283); the father's occupation was "Divriği kazası mal müdürü". At about 16, in 1882/83, Mehmet Raif began work in Şebinkarahisar (Karahisar-ı Şarki), on a first salary of 50 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1882/83, places Mehmet Raif in Şebinkarahisar as tahrirat kalemi katibi. Next came Alucra and Sivas from 1883 to 1891. For 1884 to 1887, 1888 to 1890 and 1891 to 1894 the lists have no entry. The last posts were in Hafik (Koçhisar) from 1894 to 1896. In place of a title the lists give Infisal for 1895/96.
