Life and register readings
Mehmed Şükrü Efendi was born in Bulak karyesi (Zağfiranbolu) in 1871/72 (AH 1288), into the İslam community, and the father's occupation was "Zürra (çiftçi)". Work began in Istanbul in 1900/01, at about 29, on a first salary of 10 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1900/01, places Mehmed Şükrü in Istanbul as Sicil-i Ahval ve İstatistik Kalemi katibi, where the entries run to 1909/10.
