Life and register readings
Hüseyin Hüsnü Efendi was born in Hassa in 1855/56 (AH 1272); the father was a merchant (tüccar). Work began in Antakya in 1874/75, at about 18. The annual lists begin in 1874/75, with Hüseyin Hüsnü as Maliye yazı işleri stajyeri in Antakya, where the entries run to 1880/81. At the same time, from 1877 to 1878, the lists also place Hüseyin Hüsnü in a post with no place named as Beşinci Fırka Seyyare Mehmed-i Sâniliği. Hüseyin Hüsnü then moved to Antakya and Harem (Harim) from 1882 to 1891. The lists have no entry for 1885 to 1890. Alongside, the lists for 1890 to 1892 give a second post, in Antakya as Mal Muduru. For 1892 to 1902 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Hüseyin Hüsnü to Raqqa in 1902/03. Alongside, the lists for 1902 to 1906 give a second post, in Bilan as Mal Muduru.
The salary went from 235 kuruş a month in 1875/76 to 540 in 1902/03, the peak, as Mal Muduru in Bilan, when 63 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1905/06.
