Life and register readings
Born in Shkodër (İşkodra) in 1884/85 (AH 1302), Mahmud Cemal Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Work began in Tuzi (Tuz) in 1902/03, at about 17. The first annual entry, for 1902/03, places Mahmud Cemal in Tuzi as Telgrafhane mülazımı, where the entries run to 1905/06. At the same time, from 1905/06, the lists also place Mahmud Cemal in Thessaloniki (Selanik) as Telgraf ve posta muhabere memuru.
