Life and register readings
Mehmed Zülfikar Efendi was born in Harput in 1870/71 (AH 1287); the father was a merchant (tüccar). At about 15, in 1884/85, Mehmed Zülfikar began work, on a first salary of 400 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1885/86, names Mehmed Zülfikar as Muhafız muvakkat müfettişi, with no place. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Zülfikar to Kilis in 1887/88 and Mersin in 1888/89. Alongside, the lists for 1888 to 1891 give a second post, in Adana as Düyûn-ı Umûmiye merkez müdüriyeti evrâk-ı sahiha memuru ve sandık emini. Alongside, the lists for 1890 to 1898 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Emlâk-ı Hümâyun kâtibi. For 1898 to 1906 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1897/98 give a second post, in Şanlıurfa as Posta kâtibi. The last post was in Bitlis in 1906/07.
