Life and register readings
The life of Penayir Efendi began in Antalya in 1865/66 (AH 1282). Work began in 1881/82, at about 16. The first annual entry, for 1881/82, names Penayir as Ticaret Mahkemesi mülâzımı, with no place. At the same time, from 1883 to 1892, the lists also place Penayir in Elmalı as Aşar anbarı memuru. The lists have no entry for 1886 to 1889.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1883/84, in Elmalı, when 46 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1891/92.
