Life and register readings
Ropen Efendi was born in Germir in 1858/59 (AH 1275). At about 28, in 1886/87, Ropen began work. The first annual entry, for 1886/87, names Ropen as Sandık emini, with no place. The lists have no entry for 1888 to 1890 and 1893 to 1895. Alongside, the lists for 1902/03 give a second post, in Genç as Ziraat Bankası memuru. The last entries, from 1907 to 1910, name Ropen as Ziraat Bankası sandık memuru, with no place.
The salary went from 360 kuruş a month in 1890/91 to 500 in 1902/03, the peak, in Genç, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The peak lasted a single year; the next list gives 360 kuruş. After 15 years the salary stood below the first, 250 kuruş against 360. The final annual entry is for 1909/10.
