Life and register readings
The life of MAHMUT RAMİZ EFENDİ began in Mosul (Musul) in 1862/63 (AH 1279). Work began in Mosul in 1878, at about 16. The last entry, for 1897/98, names MAHMUT RAMİZ as istihdam cevazı (intihab komisyonu), with no place. In place of a title the lists give Azil (dismissal) for 1881/82 and Infisal for 1894/95.
Pay rose from 160 kuruş a month in 1880/81 to a peak of 750 in 1888/89, in Kirkuk, when three in four paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1897/98.
