Life and register readings

The life of TAHİR BEY began in Shkodër (İşkodra) in 1848/49 (AH 1265); the father's occupation was "Podgorica hâkimi". TAHİR began work in Podgorica (Podgoriça) in 1868/69, at about 19. The annual lists begin in 1868/69, with TAHİR as Podgorica Kazası Tahrirat Odası mülazımı in Podgorica. TAHİR then moved to Debar (Debre), Istanbul and Shkodër from 1873 to 1880. Alongside, the lists for 1879 to 1881 give a second post, in Thessaloniki as Selanik Vilayeti mektupçusu. Alongside, the lists for 1880/81 give a second post, in Bitlis as Bitlis Vilayeti mektupçusu. Next came Genç and Sulaymaniyah (Süleymaniye) from 1881 to 1889. Alongside, the lists for 1888 to 1891 give a second post, in Mosul as Musul vali vekili. The annual lists then follow TAHİR to Van and Bitlis from 1897 to 1910. Alongside, the lists for 1908 to 1910 give a second post, in Erzurum as Erzurum valisi. The last post was in Mosul again in 1911/12. Few officials served in as many places; 42 of the 6,605 officials with a place of service did.

The salary went from 350 kuruş a month in 1873/74 to 23,000 in 1907/08, the peak, in Bitlis, when 99 per cent of paid officials earned less.
