Life and register readings
Born in Drama in 1877/78 (AH 1294), Mehmed Halid Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). The annual lists begin in 1899/1900, with Mehmed Halid as Ziraat Bankası sandığı muhasebe katibi refiki in Bika, where the entries run to 1902/03. Alongside, the lists for 1902 to 1905 give a second post, in Dera as Ziraat Bankası muhasebe katibi. At the same time, from 1904/05, the lists also place Mehmed Halid in a post with no place named as Ziraat Bankası sandığı muhasebe katibi. The farthest post, Dera, lay about 2,200 km from Drama, and fewer than 3 per cent of the 5,339 officials with a known birthplace and place of service served as far from the birthplace.
