Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Necip Bey began in Diyarbakır in 1846/47 (AH 1263). Mehmed Necip began work in 1868/69, at about 21, on a first salary of 1,050 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1868/69, with Mehmed Necip as Nahiye Muduru and no place named. Mehmed Necip then moved to Diyarbakır, Diyadin and Silvan from 1869 to 1883. Alongside, the lists for 1882 to 1885 give a second post, in Palu as Kaymakam. Alongside, the lists for 1884 to 1889 give a second post, in Lice as Kaymakam. For 1889 to 1892 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1899/1900 give a second post, in Bulanık as Kaymakam. The last entries, from 1901 to 1907, name Mehmed Necip as Kaymakam, with no place. Eight places in all, a number reached by fewer than 4 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service.
Pay rose from 1,050 kuruş a month in 1868/69 to a peak of 2,500 in 1894/95, as Kaymakam, when 95 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
