Life and register readings
Born in Bursa in 1862/63 (AH 1279), Mehmed Bahri Efendi came from the İslam community; the father's occupation was "Asâkir-i şâhâne miralayı". Work began in 1883/84, at about 21, on a first salary of 500 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1883/84, names Mehmed Bahri as Dersaâdet ve Bilad-ı selâse icrâ kılınan tahrir-i nüfus kitâbeti; kitâbet, with no place. The lists give Infisal for 1884/85 and 1889/90 instead of a title.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1883/84, when 60 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1889/90.
