Life and register readings
The life of İBRAHİM EDHEM EFENDİ (B) began in Komotini (Gümülcine) in 1866/67 (AH 1283); the father's occupation was "Gümülcine tahsildarı". Work began in Komotini in 1881/82, at about 16. The annual lists begin in 1881/82, with İBRAHİM EDHEM (B) as Aşar İdaresi mülazımı in Komotini, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1896/97. The lists have no entry for 1882 to 1891. Alongside, the lists for 1896/97 give a second post, in Sultanyeri as Mal Müdürü refiki. Next came Cuma from 1898 to 1901. At the same time, from 1900 to 1902, the lists also place İBRAHİM EDHEM (B) in Smolyan (Ahiçelebi) as Tahrirat kâtibi. The last post was in Komotini again in 1902/03. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1896/97 and 1901/02 instead of a title.
The salary went from 120 kuruş a month in 1891/92 to 480 in 1900/01, the peak, in Smolyan, when 54 per cent of paid officials earned less.
