Life and register readings
Born in Gümüşhane, Cami-i Kebir Mahallesi in 1874/75 (AH 1291), Mehmed Sabri Efendi was the child of a tradesman (esnaf). At about 25, in 1899/1900, Mehmed Sabri began work in Gümüşhane, on a first salary of 45 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1899/1900, names Mehmed Sabri as Mahkeme-i Bidayet odacısı, with no place.
