Life and register readings
İbrahim Ethem Efendi was born in Pirot (Şehirköy) in 1864/65 (AH 1281); the father's occupation was "ırgat". Work began in Çatalca in 1883/84, at about 19. The annual lists begin in 1883/84, with İbrahim Ethem as Çatalca müdüriyeti stajyeri in Çatalca. At the same time, from 1884/85, the lists also place İbrahim Ethem in a post with no place named as Piyade kolcusu. İbrahim Ethem then moved back to Çatalca from 1886 to 1894. For 1887 to 1891 and 1894 to 1902 the lists have no entry. Alongside, the lists for 1893/94 give a second post, in Soufli as Düyûn-ı Umûmiye Müdürlüğü İkinci Dairesi memuru. The last post was in Alexandroupoli (Dedeağaç) in 1902/03. The lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1884/85 instead of a title.
Pay rose from 150 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to a peak of 500 in 1893/94, in Çatalca, when 55 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1902/03.
