Life and register readings
Hüseyin Hüsnü Efendi was born in Mostar in 1854/55 (AH 1271). Work began in Hersek in 1870/71, at about 16, on a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1884/85, places Hüseyin Hüsnü in Chios (Sakız) as Merkez Mutasarrıflığı Tahrirat Kalemi evrak mukayyidi. At the same time, from 1885 to 1900, the lists also place Hüseyin Hüsnü in a post with no place named as Tahrirat kâtibi.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1884/85 to a peak of 600 in 1887/88, when 64 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1899/1900.
