Life and register readings
Born in Taşköprü in 1858/59 (AH 1275), Mahmud Kemal Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). At about 23, in 1881/82, Mahmud Kemal began work in Taşköprü. Every annual entry from 1881/82 to 1894/95 places Mahmud Kemal in the same post, Nüfus Kalemi mülazımı, in Taşköprü, the birthplace. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1889/90 and Infisal for 1894/95.
