Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Selahaddin Bey began in Istanbul in 1875/76 (AH 1292); the father's occupation was "Hazine-i Hümayun kapuçukadarı". At about 16, in 1891/92, Mehmed Selahaddin began work. The first annual entry, for 1891/92, names Mehmed Selahaddin as Suriye Mektubi Kalemi mülazımı, with no place. For 1897 to 1902 the lists have no entry. The annual lists then follow Mehmed Selahaddin to Çatalca from 1902 to 1906. Alongside, the lists for 1905 to 1908 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Emlak-ı Hümayun ikinci şubesi muhasebe refiki. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1896/97.
The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1895/96 to 850 in 1907/08, the peak, when three in four paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08.
