Life and register readings
Born in Akhisar in 1885/86 (AH 1303), Mehmet Kamil Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). The first annual entry, for 1906/07, places Mehmet Kamil in Demirci as Ziraat Bankası sandığı muhasebe kitabeti refiki, where the entries run to 1908/09. At the same time, from 1908 to 1910, the lists also place Mehmet Kamil in Bergama as Ziraat Bankası sandığı muhasebe kitabeti refiki. Alongside, the lists for 1909/10 give a second post, in Istanbul as Tedavi izni.
The salary went from 250 kuruş a month in 1906/07 to 400 in 1909/10, the peak, in Istanbul, when 31 per cent of paid officials earned less.
