Hacı Mahmud Efendi’nin oğlu olan Ahmed Hamdi Efendi, H. 1280 (1863 /
1864) tarihinde Tokat’ta doğmuştur. Sıbyan mektebinde ilimlere giriş derslerini okuyup,
Kur’an-ı Kerim’i ezberledikten sonra medresede Arapça öğrenmiştir. Türkçe okuyup
yazabilmektedir.
