Life and register readings
Born in Antalya in 1859/60 (AH 1276), Mehmed Şakir Efendi was the child of a merchant (tüccar). Mehmed Şakir began work in 1878, at about 18. The first annual entry, for 1878, names Mehmed Şakir as Tahrirat Kalemi mülazımı, with no place. Alongside, the lists for 1878 to 1880 give a second post, in Antakya as Tütün fabrikası memur muavini.
