Life and register readings
Mehmed Hilmi Efendi was born in Komotini (Gümülcine) in 1858/59 (AH 1275). At about 19, in 1878, Mehmed Hilmi began work in Komotini, on a first salary of 200 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1878, places Mehmed Hilmi in Komotini, the birthplace, as Rüsûm-ı Sitte İdaresi üçüncü kâtibi, where the entries run to 1880/81. Mehmed Hilmi then moved to Sultanyeri from 1882 to 1887. Alongside, the lists for 1885/86 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Askerlik nedeniyle ara.
