MEHMED NAZIM EFENDĠ

The life of MEHMED NAZIM EFENDĠ began in Antalya in 1857/58 (AH 1274). The first annual entry, for 1890/91, places MEHMED NAZIM EFENDĠ in Mersin as Bidayet Mahkemesi Ceza Dairesi reisi. Alongside, the lists for 1891 to 1894 give a second post, in Cebeli bereket as Bidayet Mahkemesi Ceza Dairesi reisi. At the same time, from 1893 to 1896, the lists also place MEHMED NAZIM EFENDĠ in Tripoli (Trablusşam) as Bidayet Mahkemesi Ceza Dairesi reisi. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1897 give a second post, in Hama as Bidayet Mahkemesi Ceza Dairesi reisi. Next came Şanlıurfa (Urfa) from 1897 to 1900. The last posts were in Burdur from 1904 to 1910. Five provinces in all, a number reached by fewer than 6 per cent of the 6,605 officials with a place of service.

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 1,400 kuruş a month in 1890/91, in Mersin, when 87 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over 17 years pay ended below where it began, 1,260 kuruş against 1,400. Over the years with a salary, pay stood on average in the top 13.1 per cent of each year's paid officials, a standing reached by fewer than 6 per cent of the 4,381 officials paid for five years or more. The last annual entry is for 1909/10.
