Life and register readings
The life of Mehmed Bey began in Lofçe in 1833/34 (AH 1249). Work began in 1863/64, at about 30, on a first salary of 166 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1886/87, places Mehmed in Hama as Arazi-i Şarkiye memuru, where the entries run to 1895/96. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1900 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Arazi-i Seniyye şubesi müdür muavini. The lists give Vefat (death) for 1899/1900 instead of a title.
The salary went from 750 kuruş a month in 1886/87 to 1,350 in 1896/97, the peak, when 87 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, 13 years of salary come to 154,800 kuruş, 2.5 times what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1899/1900.
