Mehmed Cevdet Efendi was born in Çemişgezek in 1871/72 (AH 1288); the father's occupation was "Dersim sancağı vergi memuru". At about 15, in 1885/86, Mehmed Cevdet began work. The first annual entry, for 1885/86, names Mehmed Cevdet as Vergi kalemi mülazımı, with no place. Mehmed Cevdet then moved to Carsancak in 1889/90. Alongside, the lists for 1892/93 give a second post, in Çemişgezek as Ziraat Bankası sandığı muhasebe katibi vekili. Alongside, the lists for 1895 to 1909 give a second post, in Çemişgezek as Ziraat Bankası sandığı muhasebe katibi. Alongside, the lists for 1908 to 1911 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Ziraat Bankası müfettiş muavini. Alongside, the lists for 1908 to 1910 give a second post, in Şanlıurfa as Ziraat Bankası şubesi memur vekili. The last post was in Arapgir in 1910/11. In place of a title the lists give İstifa (resignation) for 1889/90 and Azil (dismissal) for 1892/93.

Pay rose from 200 kuruş a month in 1889/90 to a peak of 1,000 in 1908/09, when three in four paid officials earned less. Over 21 years the salaries add up to 113,400 kuruş, about what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1910/11.
