Life and register readings
Mehmed Said Efendi was born in Taşköprü in 1870/71 (AH 1287); the father's occupation was "Saray-ı Hümayun kayıkçısı, emekli". Work began in Taşköprü in 1887/88, at about 17. The first annual entry, for 1887/88, places Mehmed Said in Taşköprü, the birthplace, as Maliye kalemi mülazımı, where the entries run to 1889/90. Alongside, the lists for 1889 to 1893 give a second post, in a post with no place named as Tahrir ve vergi kâtibi. The lists have no entry for 1893 to 1907. In 1907/08 the lists place Mehmed Said again in Taşköprü.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1889/90, when 29 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08.
